Discrete Small Sample Asymptotics

چکیده
(ABSTRACT) Random variables defined on the natural numbers may often be approximated by Poisson variables. Just as normal approximations may be improved by saddlepoint methods, Pois-son approximations may be substantially improved by tilting, expansion, and other related methods. This work will develop and examine the use of these methods, as well as present examples where such methods may be needed.

Estimation for Dynamical Systems with Small Noise from Discrete Observations
We consider an efficient estimation of an unknown parameter appearing in both the drift and the diffusion coefficient for a d-dimensional dynamical system with small noise. Asymptotic properties of an M -estimator obtained from an approximate quadratic martingale estimating function are stated. The sample path is observed at equidistant times k/n, k = 0, 1, . . . , n. The type of asymptotics co...
متن کاملLimit Theory for Continuous Time Systems with Mildly Explosive Regressors∗
New limit theory is developed for co-moving systems with explosive processes, connecting continuous and discrete time formulations. The theory uses double asymptotics with infill (as the sampling interval tends to zero) and large time span asymptotics. The limit theory explicitly involves initial conditions, allows for drift in the system, is provided for single and multiple explosive regressor...

متن کاملOn the asymptotics of discrete order statistics
Let X1; X2; : : : ; Xn be a sequence of independent, identically distributed positive integer random variables. We study the asymptotics of the likelihood that the sample maximum is achieved k times and in its spacing relative to the second highest value. Earlier and other results are discussed in context. Also, some investigation is made when the sample is Markovian. Di1erent results emerge in...

The exact densities of estimates of the shift or regression parameters can be derived with the aid of score functions. Moreover, extremely accurate approxim...
